Welcome to the Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law & Justice.

In September 2009, New York University School of Law inaugurated The Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law & Justice, thanks to a generous donation from Daniel E. Straus ('81) and his wife Joyce G. Straus, through their family foundation. The mission of the Straus Institute is to welcome Fellows from around the world and facilitate their high level research and scholarship on topics falling within a broad definition of law and justice. The focus is wholly interdisciplinary, and in future years, numerous Fellows will come from disciplines other than law. There is a determination not to be merely an “ivory tower”, but to merge premier academic and intellectual conditions with community integration and a sense of public service. Through the concept of the annual theme, each year The Straus Institute defines areas of research and scholarship of relevance to society and steers a critical mass of the Fellows to work in these areas.
