About Joseph & Gwendolyn Straus

The Institute is dedicated to the memory of Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus, parents of Daniel Straus.  The Institute is an appropriate memorial because it is consistent with their lives’ mission, which was to make the world a better place for future generations.  Joseph Straus immigrated to the United States in 1922 and lived in Brooklyn, New York.  Gwendolyn Straus was born in Brooklyn, New York, and lived there for much of her life.  Joseph Straus, who received both his LL.B. ’37 and LL.M. ’43 from NYU School of Law, was a sole practitioner as a lawyer and subsequently founded a successful and well-respected nursing home business.  Gwendolyn Straus had two Master’s degrees and was a primary school teacher specializing in reading skills.
